How exactly are we doing this? Do we want people to send ecards directly to each other or still have the mods do it so emails are not shared?

Do we want to choose pairs at random using a generator? Or each person gets one random person, but it's not necessarily a pairing, as in you send it to one person, but that person sends it to another person?

Yeah, I was overthinking the exchange and how giving and receiving presents/cards work normally xD

The idea is to make sure that everyone does get a card although in the past if there have been odd numbers as the organiser I have sent two just to make sure no one got left out but don't worry about that let's just sign-up and the details will get worked out.

I think due to security and privacy its better if a mod would do it.
Unless everyone agrees and then I don't mind arranging the emails and the pairing.

We can let everyone choose what they're most comfortable with I suppose.. have the option for both. If anyone is not comfortable having their email shared with other members at all, then that person won't receive the e-card directly from a member and the mods can make sure a card is passed along to them... If anyone is comfortable with others knowing their email address, then we can have members send it directly. We can PM the email address to them once we randomized everything, too.

As mentioned before, mods already know the email addresses of everyone, so we can keep it more of a surprise who the person is sending it without them having to ask for the email address themselves, but if anyone doesn't want anything sent to the email being used for the forum, then we'd need to know that beforehand, and then we could use the email of your choice instead.

Is everyone okay with using the email used for the forum at least?

Would it be individual cards or the same card to everyone? If it's the same card, then that's easier because then you can maybe just share the same link or file to everyone if it's online at least. If it is a link, then you can share it on here even. Ecards can also be images you create (like how you make avatars), and then you can post them on here and tag people, too

One of us mods can forward your cards to people if you want instead of all the back and forth and having to send it out to everyone yourself.

Might depend on the site, but I know some I've used also sent me a copy with a link of it and they'd even tell me if the person saw it yet. Then I guess if the person didn't get the email I could forward it to them so they could see it.

Wonder if you can try sending one to yourself and see what you can do with it.

and then I sent the links to my SO to confirm many people can access the link, and he was able to view them, too, so you do that to simplify things for yourself

But the mods will still set up the randomization either way.

I suppose it's possible some might expire after a while (weeks, months, years??), but as long as they work for the occasion then I think that's good enough.

I actually find it less complicated this way lol but maybe that's just me.

This is the first time we're doing it, so we have to work out the kinks and find out what is the easiest way for everyone to be involved.. even those who may not be comfortable sharing any of their contact info, and this is the way to do it without sharing anything but the card via a link on the forum.

Honestly, a lot of people have email addresses that make it sound like they aren't even who they say they are on here (completely different names), so maybe it's best to keep some things private.

We are now ready to rock and roll with the official WOF xmas card extravaganza.

The plan is that all those who have entered will be sent the name of a colleague.

It will then be up to you to contact them and ask what sort of card would they like.

An E card to their email account, a link to their private messages, or a physical card sent to their home address.
