I wouldn't be devastated. Living without DVDs, YouTube and television would be liberating. Because living through these media formats does not always equal being happy. You're living through their eyes, rather than your own. Plus - if you met them - you'd realize how human they are and would see their film work without affection or enjoyment.

I have to say, sometimes I hate celebrities. They have no meaning to my happiness. I used to believe DVDs and TV made me happy: I now know differently.

TV shows and movies can be fun, though. I don't watch them to admire actors... I watch it for the content. I'm also not living through them or wishing to be anywhere else when I watch my shows or movies.

This I agree with. TV is great, but it's just canned entertainment. There is no emotional involvement: at least, for me. I like DVDs - don't get me wrong - but I feel like a loser, sitting there while this great actor gets everything. I have a DVD: they have a mansion and fancy cars. They can't pay my bills and stop me being evicted and living on the street, going into the sex trade, being beaten up and becoming a drug addict, can they?

OK, those things haven't happened to me: but there is a fear they will. Also, that is why I go to work instead of watching films. Now, I must say, there ARE films I like, but I don't want to live my life through them. I will not live without the Internet, though: DVDs don't matter, but my online world does.

There are lots of times during the week when I am busy and forget what's on. I have just turned off the news as the main stories were the ins and outs of a further 4 week lockdown (even after world leaders ignored restrictions for a party on the beach!!!) and a football person with some issue.

No, if there is one thing covid has brought home to me it is the evils of the media and just how easily businesses and the government can manipulate the people by it.

The media is both positive and negative. There are good aspects of general media - newspapers/Internet/magazines/radio/film/TV - BUT it is also controlled by advertising. There are big bucks made out of people's desire for entertainment. That is where all the money lies. If you can sell your media product to the public, you're made: just look how much the founder of Amazon has. Being a billionaire is now where he's at.

It is all a system and we just consume these media "products". I hate that word but it's true. Every CD and book, every uploaded YouTube video, all pump money into the entertainment industry. Plus, entertainers endorse charities and products and fashions to pump even more money into everyone's wallet.

Advertisement doesn't end.
