My physical documents are kept in a nice neat filing cabinet unless they are really important. Then they are kept in the safe.
This I like. You're very sensible. I do so myself [although I don't use a safe]. Again, a person needs to know where all their important documents are. Because things crop up in life and if your documents are a mess, you'll not be as efficient when dealing with life admin.

RE Bookmarks: I have folders as well, but under the folder "Other Bookmarks." The Bookmarks Bar has limited space, and Folder names take up a lot. For individual sites, I erase the bookmark title so that only the icons display, thereby expanding the amount of visible bookmarks. If, for some reason, I forget what pages the icons represent, I can just hover over them with the mouse to remember.
RE Files: In an decluttering effort, I've gone paperless in more ways than one. I've gotten rid of almost all my ephemera, to include donating a postcard collection. I purchased a small NAS and hard drives totaling 20TB of disk space so that hubby and I could save/back up all our files (hubby works with huge data files). By using paperless billing, I no longer just let them lie around until I get around to opening and/or filing them (they're on autopay). I now just get notifications via email, some of which state the billed amount, go to the websites to download, store the bills/statements and enter them into my account register. If we ever need to quickly evacuate, the NAS will be the first thing we take rather than scampering around to retrieve our computers and laptops.
All these bookmarks, I checked yesterday and I have way to many of sites that I never visit anymore. So, not anymore. My bookmarks are now very streamlined.

It is best to regularly go through your bookmarks feed: as you've said, you had so many sites you no longer use. I do the same myself. Also having bookmarks in labelled folders helps narrow down your searches. I won't re-write my previous post about doing that, though!
Anyhow, keeping your work and admin organized is helpful in life: for paying bills and the whatnot.
how else are we gonna remember cool sites like wof if we don't?
Eh?
How could you forget?
Is a better question....
Sometimes I have accessed wof via a different computer on which I don't have the bookmark. I have never failed to find it but I have found that it does not seem to readily come up on computer searches like some sites do.
As an aside, I don't know if anyone has noticed but there is a notice on the female forum, which many here know, stating that it will close on 31 December 2022.

Google is pretty good with its search results. However, I struggled to find Female Forum on Google. There are so many sites with a similar name, it can be hard to track down. And THAT is why I use my bookmarks feed.

I wonder if we will get an influx from that?
I doubt it as the last time I looked nobody appeared to be posting. On the list of people visiting it only mainly seems to be old members, now on here, looking in from time to time.

I just looked in today since it was mentioned. I had to use a different browser to do so, since I didn't have the password saved on my regular browser. Guess that shows how long it has been!
Related to bookmarks in browsers... I have an email from my oldest, giving me links for the tabs that may end up being closed on the family computer soon - I open articles and forget to read them, then the kids come to the machine and it's got more tabs open than they're comfortable with, hee hee. I do sometimes remember to bookmark some of my open sites for later...

You remind me of being at work and sorting ipads which we had with patients. Often the whole family used them and opened applications then never closed them. They never realised that each open application likely reduces performance so, after so many, the system may almost grind to a halt. I presume Apple has a way to avoid the inevitable but it will still be slower. I never used iphones, or any other smartphone, but I presume they are similar and do get clogged with apps.

When I get my new laptop, I am going to have to input a new browser and upload documents onto the new laptop. It is going to be one tough job. I am thinking of using the Cloud to help me: it'll make it much, much easier. There is a subscription fee, but who cares: if I need the Cloud, I need the Cloud.

BUT it will be worth the effort.
I have an external USB drive which I use for transferring data. In fact I use USB sticks for smaller amounts, but have a 2Tbyte drive which I can use for very large amounts.
One sensible way to do things is to run up the new laptop in parallel with the old so you can sort any bugs / software issues out with the new one before you transfer your data, then do things in stages. It might be a bit more involved than you wish to go but it is fairly easy to transfer your files directly from computer to computer using your home network too. That would cost you nothing.

This is advice I needed. I shall take your advice: again, it'll take time. However, I don't need ALL my files and documents on my new laptop: just the essentials.

We have a NAS on which we keep data. Nothing is stored on PCs/laptops. We have a RAID with one hot-swappable hard drive. Right now, I'm ripping all my music CDs to a public music library share I created and stored on the NAS, which can be accessed by any device on our wireless network...phone, PC, laptop, AVR, etc. It costs money up front, but we'll never have to transfer data between phones/PCs/laptops/notepads again. It's our own personal cloud.

My new computer has a bookmark feed, but not where I want it. I don't know how to have it next to my Internet page when online. But I will figure it out.

You have plenty of learning in the next few days. I'm glad it's up and running.

Google is your friend.
I don't remember 'how' but all my old bookmarks are on my new laptop. It really is quite easy.
Edit:
I found it, obviously I don't use the microsoft browsers, but here you are:
To import bookmarks from most browsers, like Firefox or Safari:
On your computer, open Chrome.
At the top right, click More. .
Select Bookmarks. Bookmark manager.
At the top right, click More. Import bookmarks.
Select the program that contains the bookmarks that you'd like to import.
Click Import. Done.

Hello, kjay.
I LOVE my new computer. I've got hang of all its functions. I love how fast and efficient it is. It was time to move on so having this computer is an investment. It cost around £600 and was worth it. I am very computer and tech savvy, so this computer is a dream come true.
I now have windows 11. I also have super-fast Internet. It is fantastic!

I keep my bookmarks feed updated: I use it as a page turner, if you will. It makes finding websites much easier and more efficient. This is because I like being organized.
